  He had two additional wives: Mary S. Jennings (b. July 7, 1819; d. June 21, 1854, m. 1844) and Permelia A. Cody Davidson (b. n.d., d. February 24, 1894, m. December 17, 1865; she had at least 2 sons with her first husband), whom he married after Ursula. His first marriage produced the following children: John R. Stockard, Samuel J. Stockard, William J. Stockard, Beatrice E. Stockard, and George H. Stockard.

  • 1860 U.S. Census, District 7, Lawrence County, Tennessee, p. 40; listed James and his children Luther, John R., Samuel J., Beatrice, and William J. Silas is listed as 5 years old, so he may not have been Ursula's son if they married in 1855. The son Joseph would be her's (age 3)
  • 1870 U.S. Census, District 8, Lewis County, Tennessee, M593-1543, p. 139; James W. with his wife Permelia; Silas N. (age 14) is listed in this extended family. Where is son Joseph? and Thomas?
  • 1880 U.S. Census, District 5 Lewis County, Tennessee, T9-1267, p. 336A; lists James W. Stockard with his wife Permelia. In 1880, Silas Stockard is in the household of George L. Crossnoe, his 1st cousin (Alamo, Crockett County, Tennessee, T9-1249, p. 205B). This possibly is an indication that Silas is her son, since he is living with her relatives. What happened to the 2 youngest sons?
